Dallas Neighbors Meet with Police About Recent Burglaries

Dallas police are trying to catch the thief or group of thieves behind the crime plaguing North Dallas neighborhoods: evening burglaries.

And law enforcement is hoping neighborhood watch groups can help.

“They’re generally going into one room, rummaging through a few drawers and exiting quickly,” explained Dallas Police Officer Mark Lutz at a quarterly crime watch meeting.

About 100 neighbors showed up to Tuesday's crime watch meeting, many of whom with questions about the evening burglaries.

Police said a dozen break-ins have taken place since mid-January, with all of them during the evening hours. Detectives believe the alleys behind homes are helping conceal the thieves.

“So far nobody's been home when the burglaries happen, but one of these days the burglars are gonna make a mistake and enter when there is someone there and who knows what that might lead to,” said neighbor Paul Landfair.

Police said the burglaries have all been similar, but they haven’t been able to connect all the dots just yet. They’re also looking into possibility this is connected to the evening burglar who has struck more than 20 homes in Plano. Still, there is no suspect description, nor an arrest.

“Dogs in the homes, they’re not afraid of that. The alarms are blazing. They’re coming in with that. It’s just concerning,” said neighbor Jandis Price.

Residents are encouraged to call 911 if they see something out of place in their neighborhood.
