Dallas' Juvenile Curfew in Effect Monday

The controversial daytime juvenile curfew in Dallas goes into effect Monday.

Dallas City Council members approved the curfew last week despite strong opposition. Parents, kids, and the businesses that allow them admittance during school hours could receive fines of up to $500 after a third violation.

However, city officials said most punishment will be community service and not fines.

The curfew expands the current nighttime curfew for minors, which is from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m., Sunday through Thursday and 12 a.m. to 6 a.m., Friday and Saturday.

Kids will catch a bit of a break before summer as officers aren't expected to enforce the curfew until the beginning of the 2009-10 school year.
