Dallas ISD Welcomes High Number of New Teachers

Most North Texas educators are preparing to go back to school and the Dallas Independent School District will have to prepare a lot of new faces.

Dallas ISD interim superintendent Michael Hinojosa said they hired more than 1,500 new district teachers for this year, which is a higher than desired number.

"It is more than usual," Hinojosa said at the district's New Teacher Academy Thursday.

Hinojosa said he hopes to reduce the amount of turnover so they can retain and develop top-notch teachers.

"We want to have a great teacher in every classroom," he said. "We're not going back off the high expectations that we have for the performance of our students."

Hinojosa said he hopes to have fewer than 800 new teachers at next year's New Teacher Academy.
