Dallas Fire-Rescue Names New Chief

Chief has been with DFW for three decades

The city of Dallas has a new fire chief.

Louie W. Bright III, most recently the city's interim fire chief, accepted the offer from the city on Friday.

He has been with the department for more than three decades and is a Dallas native.

"I humbly and proudly acept the offer to become Fire Chief for the City of Dallas Fire-Rescue Department. In my 30+ years of service, in whatever capacity I have been assigned, my only goal ha been to exert maximum effort to ensure the citizens and visitors of this city receive the service they deserve," Bright said in a letter to the city. "It has been an honor to serve as the Interim Fire Chief for the past several months, and I continue to learn and grow professionally from the experience."

Bright, who graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1979 and started with DFR in 1981. He has an associates degree from Cedar Valley College and is currently enrolled in the Fire Management Program at Columbia Southern University. 

Bright said he is committed to completing his bachelors degree by the fall of 2013.
