Dallas DA Watkins Says He'll Seek Re-Election

Dallas County District Attorney Craig Watkins says he'll seek a third term next year.

First elected in 2006, Watkins has established a national reputation for freeing wrongfully convicted inmates. But he has feuded with some local officials, including Democrats, over funding and other issues. He was narrowly re-elected in 2010.

Watkins acknowledges another Democrat might challenge him in a primary, but says he's confident he'll win.

Watkins is the first black district attorney to be elected in Texas.

Former Texas District Judge John Creuzot has been named as one possible challenger. Creuzot told the Dallas Morning News that he would consider the race as an option.
