Dallas County District Attorney Launches Reformative Justice Unit

Dallas County District Attorney Susan Hawk held a news conference Monday to introduce the new Reformative Justice Unit, specifically designed to target non-violent young offenders and offenders who suffer from mental illness.

"For too long, prosecution rates have been used to measure the effectiveness of our office, and that needs to change. We know that mass incarceration does not work. It's time to look at treating the core causes of crime, and this new unit is a step in that direction," said Hawk.

The press conference detailed each diversion program, including any entry requirements, stipulations of completion and the collaboration between the District Attorney's Office and Dallas County community partners.
