Dallas-Bound Southwest Jet Makes Emergency Landing

Southwest Airlines said a flight from Kansas City, Mo., to Dallas made an emergency landing in Oklahoma City after the aircraft's crew reported a problem with the heating element for a windshield in the cockpit.

Southwest Airlines spokesman Brad Hawkins said the plane landed safely Tuesday night. The pilot decided to stop in Oklahoma City and change planes "out of an abundance of caution" after noticing a heating element was malfunctioning, he said.

Hawkins said the Boeing 737 had 44 passengers and five crew members.

He said Southwest sent another plane to Oklahoma City from Dallas to get the passengers to their destination without needing to stay in Oklahoma City overnight.
