Dallas Based Luminant Sued Over Pollution

The Justice Department has filed a clean-air lawsuit against Dallas-based Luminant Generation over pollution from two coal-fired East Texas power plants.

The Big Brown plant near Fairfield and the Martin Lake plant near Tyler are at the center of the lawsuit. It alleges Luminant made changes to the two plants without permits or needed improvements, resulting in increased air pollution.

Luminant is the electric power generating subsidiary of the financially troubled Dallas-based Energy Future Holdings, which bought out TXU in 2007.

A Luminant statement says the federal allegations are without merit.
