Dallas Assault Victim Goes Door to Door to Warn Neighbors

A Dallas woman who was nearly sexually assaulted in her home by a man who stole her underwear passed out fliers Tuesday warning her neighbors about the attack.

The woman was punched and choked in her home in the 5100 block of Vanderbilt Avenue in broad daylight Thursday. He tried to sexually assault her, but she fought him off.

The victim went door to door to hand out fliers about the attack. She said the man, who pried open a locked bedroom window, stole her underwear.

Mike Thomas, a neighbor, was among the first to rush to her aid.

"The guy comes in, and he's not taking anything, but he is stealing their underwear," he said. "And if they are in the house, he's jumping them. It's ... very scary."

Police said it is one of three similar crimes in recent weeks in the M Streets area of Dallas, including one last month on Palo Pinto Avenue and one a week ago on Ridgedale Avenue. A burglar broke into a young woman's home and stole her underwear.

"I wish we'd known more," Thomas said. "We weren't aware something happened a block away a couple days earlier."

The victim in Thursday's attack described the man as a Spanish-speaking Latino man between the ages of 25 and 35 who weighed 190 pounds and had very round, brown eyes. She said he wore a gray shirt and jeans.
