Daily Police Blotter: 7 Firefighters Injured in Blaze

Here's a daily list of recent activities drawing the attention of North Texas law enforcement. List compiled on Nov. 23, 2009.

7 FIREFIGHTERS INJURED IN NORTH DALLAS APARTMENT FIRE
Seven firefighters were injured battling an electrical fire Monday night in a vacant North Dallas apartment complex that is under construction. The fire spread behind the walls and in between the floors of one of the three Gramercy on the Park apartment buildings near the Dallas North Tollway and the President George Bush Turnpike. Three of the 140 firefighters who fought the blaze were injured when part of a ceiling collapsed, and several others were treated for various injuries. All were treated and released. Investigators have determined that the fire was caused by an electrical short in the meter panel. Watch video here.

DALLAS POLICE WARN OF VIOLENT PURSE ATTACKS
Dallas police say purse-snatching picks up during the holiday shopping season, as women carry more cash and thieves get more desperate. Police said three women have been violently attacked for their purses within the past month. Investigators said they don't have any reason to believe these purse snatchings are connected but are considering the possibility. Click here to read more on NBCDFW.com.

WOMAN ARRESTED IN CONNECTION WITH HUSBAND'S FATAL SHOOTING
Police say a shooting in an Arlington home left a man dead and his estranged wife in custody. Arlington police on Monday announced the woman was arrested at the scene. At about 9:30 p.m. Sunday, police responded to a domestic shooting call on the 1800 block of Lakeside Drive. The body of the man was found in the garage of the house. A statement from police spokeswoman Tiara Ellis Richard said, based on the initial investigation, it appears the woman, Colette Reyes, shot her husband. Arthur Reyes, 45, was a lecturer at the University of Texas at Arlington according to the Star-Telegram. Police say the pair had been getting a divorce.

STUDENT ATTACKED ON UTA CAMPUS
The University of Texas at Arlington Police Department is investigating a robbery and assault that took place at about 2 a.m. Monday. Investigators said a UT Arlington student was approached by a group of approximately 10 to 15 black males near Maple Square Apartments. One of the men asked the victim a question and then struck him in the face with a closed fist before taking his backpack and wallet. The men then got into two separate vehicles, a dark colored SUV and a dark colored, 4-door sedan, and left the area. MAN KILLED IN SECOND SUNDAY ROBBERY AT DALLAS APARTMENT COMPLEX
Genaro Sanches-Flores, 27, was shot and killed while listening to music in the parking lot at the Regis Square Apartments Saturday night. According to a report in the Dallas Morning News, at about 9:30 p.m. three or four men approached Flores and his friends demanding money. At some point, someone started shooting and Flores was struck. In a separate incident, a man told police he was robbed by three or four men an hour earlier at the complex. Investigators have not yet determined if the cases are connected.

TRIO INVADES DALLAS HOME, ROUGHS-UP HOMEOWNER
Dallas police are searching for three men who stormed into a home early Monday morning while a family of three were sleeping inside. The armed trio broke into the home on Maple Creek Lane at about 3 a.m. and loaded the family's Toyota Sequoia with electornics, jewelry and a piggy bank with $150. The father confronted the trio and was hit in the head, but is expected to recover. Investigators said they do not think the family knew the robbers. Click here to watch a video report.

MOTORCYCLIST, TRASH TRUCK COLLIDE
A motorcyclist was seriously injured early Monday morning when he crashed into a large trash truck. Police said the driver of the trash truck had just picked a load at a business and was crossing Continental to continue north on Dragon. The truck driver failed to see a motorcycle traveling west on Continental and pulled in front of him. The motorcycle slammed into the side of the truck, striking the fuel tank and seriously injuring the rider. The motorcyclist was transported to Parkland. The driver of the trash truck was not injured. Police have not said what charges, if any, either motorist will face.

DIESEL SPILL CLEANED ON I-820
Crews spent several hours cleaning a diesel spill along westbound Interstate 820 between Haltom Road and Beach Street early Monday morning. Initial reports indicate a vehicle caused a tanker truck to lose balance and roll over, spilling the fuel. There were no injuries reported in the crash.
