DPS Makes Driver Records Available Online

The Texas Department of Public Safety has added another feature to their website -- allowing drivers immediate access to their driving record online.

Previously, drivers could order their driver record online, but had to wait to receive their record in the mail.

"We are pleased to offer this new service, which is available 24/7 to our customers. The convenience of ordering your driver record online and then printing it out yourself will save everyone time and money," said Rebecca Davio, the DPS Assistant Director for Driver License.

Now, drivers can place their order using a credit card, yes, even though nothing is being sent via the postal service you still have to pay the state.  Costs for the records range from $4.50 to $22 depending on the record.

To order you'll also need to know your driver's license number, duh, Social Security number and DPS Audit number.  Don't know what that last one is?  Don't worry, it's that long number next to your picture on your license.

All Texas drivers, including commercial driver license holders, are eligible to use the online Driver Record System and the certified versions of the records are suitable for submitting to courts for permission to take defensive driving.

In addition to on-demand driver records, Texas.gov and DPS have introduced two other online services in the past six months: Concealed Handgun Licensing  andContractor Driver Record Requests.

Texas.gov also offers an easy, convenient way for Texans to access more than 1,000 other online services, including Driver License Renewal, Vehicle Registration Renewal, and Birth Certificate Orders.

Users can even access Texas.gov on-the-go through the Texas.gov iPhone application.
