DPD Officer Hits Pole, Knocks Out Power to Elementary School

An crash involving a Dallas Police Department officer has knocked out power to Onesimo Hernandez Elementary School in Dallas.

A DPD officer was en route to a call when another vehicle made a U-turn in front of him at 5500 Maple Avenue. The officer swerved to avoid hitting the citizen, but clipped the vehicle and struck a pole.

That electrical pole provided power to the area around Onesimo Hernadndez Elementary School, causing Dallas ISD to move student from that campus to Maple Lawn Elementary School until crews can restore power.

The injured officer was transported to Parkland with a laceration to his right hand and a contusion to his forehead. There were no other injuries.
