Amazon Prime Day Brings Deals, But Also an Outage

Amazon Prime Day 2018 started on July 16 at 3 p.m. ET, although an outage brought error messages to some shoppers.

Many people logged on and saw an error page asking customers to go back and try again.

We asked Amazon what was going on and the retailer released this statement: “Some customers are having difficulty shopping, and we’re working to resolve this issue quickly. Many are shopping successfully – in the first hour of Prime Day in the U.S., customers have ordered more items compared to the first hour last year. There are hundreds of thousands of deals to come and more than 34 hours to shop Prime Day.” [[488332531,C]]

For those of you who aren't having problems, today is said to be Christmas in July as retailers are pulling out all of the stops to win your business on prime day.

Ebay is hawking deals of up to 60 percent off electronics.

Kmart taking 60 percent off clothing and shoes.

Target offering 30 percent off its home brands and 25% off beauty and personal care.

The deep discounts come as Amazon's dominance continues to threaten the competition.  Its overall sales are expected to skyrocket 30% this year alone.

Retail experts say the best deals this year for Amazon prime day are going to be on all of the Amazon branded products like the Amazons Kindle, the Echo speakers and the Fire Stick.

The retail giant is also turning up the heat on streaming services like Apotify and Apple Music by offering a big discount on Amazon music unlimited.

You'll also see reduced prices at the grocery store.

For the first time, shoppers will get 10 percent off on "hundreds of items" at  Whole Foods, which Amazon bought last year.

Today.com has done a round-up of good deals and will keep updating this page as new top deals come in.

Some early deals on Monday were Echo Dots for $30 (normally $50) and a Toshiba 50-inch 4K HD Smart LED TV for $290 (normally $400).
