The world's fourth busiest airport is going through a lot of changes, including the announcement that its leader is leaving.
After 19 years as DFW Airport CEO, Jeff Fegan announced Thursday that he will retire in September. Fegan has led the airport through major expansion and growth in North Texas.
A $2.3 billion dollar terminal renovation project is underway now. Rail transit connections are also under construction. New animation of the finished work was released for the airport board at Thursday's meeting.
Fegan said the time is right for his retirement.
"The plans are in place. We have a lot of momentum right now. And I believe this organization will do extraordinarily well," Fegan said.
The airport is jointly owned by the cities of Dallas and Fort Worth.
Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings said the airport is well-positioned to thrive as Fegan's replacement is decided.
