DART Learning from History

Transit authority plans more train cars, buses for Texas/OU

The omnipresent “they” tell us we learn from our mistakes.

DART must have one great solution this year for the Texas/OU Red River Shootout after last year’s debacle.

And they think they do have the answer for moving thousands of people from all points Dallas to Fair Park in time for the 2:30 p.m. kickoff Oct. 2.

The plan keys on added train departures, about 27,622 bus shuttles, and advance online ticket sales so people don’t encounter malfunctioning ticket kiosks … well, at least those people who actually buy tickets.

No doubt the transit authority is all over this one, and the schedule will run smooth as silk. Just in case, though, spectators probably should plan ahead and depart for the game a bit earlier this year than last — say, 11 a.m., Oct. 1 just to be on the safe side.

Bruce Felps owns and operates East Dallas Times, an online community news outlet serving the White Rock Lake area. His travel plans for the game involve a fairly direct route from the refrigerator to the couch, although he’ll probably travel that path multiple times.
