Crossing Guard Struck in Front of Elementary School

An investigation is under way after a car struck and injured a school crossing guard at about 8 a.m. Friday in Carrollton.

The guard was attempting to stop traffic in front of Blanton Elementary, located on the 2500 block of Scott Mill Road, when he was struck by a 55-year-old woman in a Ford Focus, police said.

The collision broke the vehicle's windshield, officials said.

The crossing guard was transported to Parkland with non-life threatening head injuries and a fractured leg, Carrollton police said.

Witnesses told police that it appeared the driver was obeying the posted 20 MPH speed limit when the accident occurred.  Police said they don't believe criminal charges will be filed against the driver at this point in their investigation.
