“It’s a little tricky today because rain is falling in some of our sections, so we’re having to do it in spots,” said Ryan LaFontaine with TxDot in Dallas. “But we will be able to pretreat all of our major bridges and overpasses throughout the night.”
Both TxDot and the NTTA are using brine solution again to lower the freeze point on elevated surfaces, and crews will begin working 12-hour shifts Wednesday to keep the roads clear.
“We’re all stocked up and our guys, they’re ready to go to work,” said Lafontaine.
Some crews are out repairing potholes that have opened up in the winter weather, including one three-feet wide that opened up right through the surface of a bridge along Interstate 20, just eastbound of Bonnie View Road.
“This time of year, particularly with these winter weather storms, we do see an uptick in those sorts of potholes,” said LaFontaine. “What happens is if there’s a crack in the road surface, any kind of open space that water can get into, it fills up and then freezes and then expands and causes, it speeds up the pothole process.”
