Cowtown Marathon Sees Record Participants

The Cowtown Marathon set a record for participating runners in the event's 37th year, officials said.

With the races still a week away, nearly 27,000 runners have already paid their way into the races.

Race director Heidi Swartz said last year's ice storm might have been a blessing in disguise.

"We brought in about 1,300 new runners last year as a result of the Dallas Marathon having to cancel," she said. "I believe that this kind of brought a new awareness to those Dallas runners that the Fort Worth race was over here; that we're a great race for them."

Swartz said they're considering changing the start times of next year's races to accommodate even more runners.
