A man serving life in prison for a 1986 killing in which the victim's husband was wrongfully convicted has pleaded not guilty in a second Texas slaying.
Mark Norwood remains in custody after pleading not guilty Thursday to capital murder in the 1988 beating death of Debra Baker of Austin in her home.
Norwood was convicted last March and sentenced to life in prison for killing Christine Morton. That victim's husband, Michael Morton, served nearly 25 years in prison before being exonerated in 2011 by DNA evidence found on a bloody bandanna.
Investigators say Baker lived near the Mortons.
A now-former prosecutor accused of withholding evidence in the Morton case spent several days in jail last year for criminal contempt of court.
