Convenience Store Owner Shot by Armed Robber

Dallas police are searching for an armed robber who shot a convenience store owner as he closed up shop Thursday night.

The incident happened at about 10 p.m. off U.S. Highway 175 at Elam Road in Dallas.

Friends said owner Syed Sajid was shot in the stomach and hand.  Sajid had to have surgery and is in critical condition in the intensive care unit at an area hospital.

Police said Sajid walked out of the store and got into his SUV.  Officers believe that’s when a man robbed him and shot him.  At first, Sajid couldn’t feel his legs and crashed his SUV into the gas pump trying to escape.

Bullets shattered his driver and passenger side windows.

A man nearby heard the shots. The witness told police he discovered Sajid slumped over in the SUV and saw an armed person running away.

Police said Sajid was in and out of consciousness and hasn't been able to tell investigators how much money the person may have stolen.
