Consumers Brave Drizzle for Affordable Care

Coalition expects about 46,000 new consumers this enrollment period

A steady drizzle didn't discourage dozens of consumers from streaming into San Antonio enrollment centers to sign up for health insurance under the Affordable Care Act.

A coalition of health professionals, nonprofits and government agencies called Enrollment SA kept three centers open to help consumers navigate the exchanges and find insurance on the last day before Sunday's 2015 deadline. By mid-afternoon, the centers had attended to some 70 families with more still expected, although organizers said they were unlikely to see the long lines of 2014.

Enrollment America's regional organizer Joe Ibarra said the coalition expects about 46,000 new consumers to have signed up for insurance during this enrollment period. That would make more than 100,000 people in and around Bexar County will have received insurance through program.
