Construction Causing Delays on Highway 380 in Denton

A widening project in Denton has made what was once a five-minute trek along Highway 380 in Denton now take 20 minutes or more, according to some drivers.

The Texas Department of Transportation is working on Highway 380, also called University Avenue, from Bonnie Brae to Fulton Street.

The stretch is just over a mile long and is part of a $15 million effort by the state to turn the stretch into a six-lane divided urban highway, said TxDOT spokeswoman Michelle Releford.

However, during the work the stretch is down to just one lane each way.

Store managers along the stretch said the major work has been going for about a week now, and they said traffic into their stores has decreased due to the congestion.

Releford said it may be that way for some time. The one-lane each direction setup is expected to be in place through April 2015, and the entire project is expected to last through June.

Drivers are advised to take other routes if possible as traffic will be affected along University Avenue.
