One Killed in Early-Morning Collin County House Fire



    Collin County Home Destroyed in Fire Thursday Morning

    Firefighters in Collin County are investigating what sparked a house fire Thursday morning. (Published Thursday, Nov. 2, 2017)

    One person was killed in an early-morning fire that destroyed a home in Collin County Thursday.

    At about 8 a.m., firefighters in Lucas responded to reports of a fire at a single-story home in the 1900 block of Shady Lane.

    Video from Texas Sky Ranger captured several fire crews extinguishing hot spots burning inside the house shortly before 9 a.m.

    Just after 11 a.m., Collin County Fire Marshal Jason Browning told NBC 5 the cause of the fire was not yet known but that the inspection would begin shortly.

    The victim was identified Friday as 78-year-old Donald Ray Smith.
