College Station Man Sentenced in Officer Assault

A College Station man has been sentenced to eight years in prison after being convicted of assaulting a police officer.

The Bryan-College Station Eagle reports that 30-year-old Johnnie Fletcher Gooden was sentenced Wednesday by a Brazos County jury. Jurors on Tuesday had found him guilty in the April 2013 incident in which he was accused of trying to punch the officer in the head and kicking him in the groin while resisting arrest.

According to an arrest report, it took five officers to detain Gooden, who was exhibiting behavior consistent with a person high on the hallucinogenic drug PCP.

Gooden was called to the stand as a defense witness during the punishment phase of his trial. He denied assaulting the officer.
