Coast Guard Rescues 10 From Catamaran Off Texas

The Coast Guard has rescued 10 people from a catamaran adrift in the Gulf of Mexico off Port Mansfield.

Coast Guard officials in Corpus Christi on Saturday reported nobody was hurt and the disabled vessel was safely towed to port.

Seven adults and three children were aboard the 28-foot catamaran on Friday afternoon when the vessel began taking on water. The boaters had a satellite phone and called for help, summoning the Coast Guard to an area about 18 miles north of the Port Mansfield jetties.

A rescue swimmer dispatched from a Coast Guard helicopter reached the vessel as it drifted more than a mile offshore. The boaters managed to slow the flow of incoming water so a Coast Guard patrol vessel could then provide a tow to shore.
