City of Galveston Elects Dallas Deputy Chief Vernon Hale as Next Police Chief

The City of Galveston has elected its next police chief to replace retiring Chief Richard Boyle.

City Manager Brian Maxwell announced Dallas Police Deputy Chief Vernon Hale has been offered the position and been elected from a total of 46 candidates, of which only seven were interviewed.

Hale is currently the Deputy Chief of the Southeast Patrol Division in Dallas and has spent his entire career there since starting as patrol officer in 1992.

Hale graduated from the University of North Texas with a Master's in Science and Criminal Justice and a Bachelors of Arts & Applied Science in Criminal Justice, Dispute Resolution, and Emergency Management.

He has accepted the position and will now wait for the City Council confirmation in its Dec. 14 meeting. Once confirmed, he will be set to start his job on Feb. 2, 2018.
