Citizen Calls 911 as Man Tries to Pick Up Teen Boy: Police Say

The Johnson County Sheriff's Department and the Joshua police are looking for a man who tried to pick up a teenage boy near an elementary school Thursday.

According to a statement from the sheriff's department, a man in a 1979 Ford pickup truck tried to pick up a 9th grader outside of Elder Elementary School.

The child did not get into the vehicle and was not harmed. Still, an observant citizen saw what was going on and was able to get the license plate number off of the truck.

Police said they were able to track the plate to a Joshua address and are taking steps to locate the driver, whose name has not yet been released.

"The juvenile was not harmed and fortunately, the citizen's actions more than likely frustrated the intentions of the older male driving the truck," the department said in a news release.

The man driving the truck is described as white, in his 40s, bald and wearing eye glasses.

Johnson County Sheriff Bob Alford continues to encourage everyone to be alert and thanked the community for constant vigilance.
