Two children were found at a residence where a double shooting took place in Dallas overnight Tuesday.

The two uninjured children, both under 10-years-old, were found at the Artisan Ridge Apartments on the 5400-block of Preakness Lane.

Venora Cranford, 32, was found just inside the front door with a gunshot wound to the chest. Paramedics transported Cranford to Methodist Hospital where she died shortly after arrival.

Investigators also found Cranford's boyfriend, identified as 24-year-old Jimmon Jackson by Cranford's sister, shot to death in a back bedroom.

According to investigators, the children did not see the shooting take place, but did see the aftermath.

There was no sign of forced entry, police said. Officers believe Cranford opened the door just before the attack in an apparent home invasion.

Several residents heard the gunshots and officers are investigating the area hoping to gather more information from neighbors.
