Child Collects 40,000 Blankets For Needy Family

A Tarrant County boy's wish for homeless people to be warm in the winter has now helped thousands of North Texans.

Phillip Pruitt's mission began when he and his mother found his mentally ill father at a homeless shelter on a cold night in 2004.

The 6-year-old boy set out collecting blankets and gathered more than 40,000 of them in four years.

Phillip's mother, Cyndi Bunch, said since her husband left, the people they have helped have become her family and have taught her a lot.

"The stories are amazing stories. These people are no different than you or I," she said.

Their organization, Phillip's Wish, is collecting blankets, coats and toiletries for a Dec. 13 distribution.

You can drop them off at any Tarrant or Denton County Tom Thumb grocery store.
