Charges Possible in Irving Teen's Alcohol Poisoning Death: Police

Nimitz High graduate was freshman at Texas Tech

Lubbock police say charges could be possible in the death of an Irving teenager who died last month, one day before starting his freshman year at Texas Tech University.

Dalton Debrick, 18, was found dead at a house in Lubbock not far from the Texas Tech campus on Aug. 24, police said.

The Lubbock County Medical Examiner's Office told KCBD-TV that Debrick died as a result of acute alcohol intoxication.

While his death has been ruled accidental, police say they are looking for who provided alcohol.

Officers had responded to a complaint about a loud party at the same house about midnight but left after giving a warning to keep it quiet.

Debrick graduated from Nimitz High School in Irving. His godmother said he wanted to major in education and become a coach to teach young people about sports.

Debrick's family released this statement Wednesday:

"Dalton was a good kid with a very bright future helping others. He was still discovering himself but he said he wanted to work with kids somehow. He talked about coaching or even youth ministry.  What we know is that none of those possible futures will happen because he died because no one cared enough to stop it or take care of him. The family will not make any other statements at this time."
