Century-Old Texas Dance Hall in Swiss Alp Hits Auction Block on eBay

Looking to make a real estate investment on a century-old piece of Texas history?[[427307153,R]]

For just under $100,000 you can be the lead bidder on the Swiss Alp Dance Hall in Fayette County.

There's a hidden reserve bid on the property, so it's anyone's guess what it may actually cost to purchase. Even still, it's up for auction on eBay and the current high bid is $99,500.

The dance hall is about 70 miles southeast of Austin in the unincorporated community of Swiss Alp, along U.S. 77 between Schulenberg and La Grange.

The seller warns that the hall, a 7,000-square-foot wood-framed hall with a gabled roof and pier-and-beam foundation, is over 100 years old and buyers should "expect some wear and tear."

The buyer also gets the adjacent cafe and two acres of property overlooking "the rolling hills of Swiss Alp, Texas."

"Swiss Alp Dance Hall is a classic example of a historic hall that has seen virtually all of the changing trends and styles of Texas popular music over the last century," the seller said in the auction posting. "Some of the well-known musicians who have entertained the locals include Bob Wills, Johnny Winter, B.J.Thomas, Roy Head and the Traits. The hall has hosted many of the best-known Texas artists such as Asleep at the Wheel, Kevin Fowler, Roger Creager, Stoney LaRue, The Original Triumphs and many others."

With 26 days left in the auction, there's still plenty of time left to post a bid.
