Carrollton Makes Push to Win First Dog Park

Carrollton is one of hundreds of cities in the running for the Pet Safe “Bark for Your Park” contest.

The online contest allows folks to vote for their city to win money toward a new dog park in town.

Top prize is $100,000 with four second prizes of $25,000 each.

Carrollton city leaders began pushing the contest in town and on their website after the planners started considering a dog park for the city.

Carrollton has a population of more than 125,000, but does not have a dog park.

City Parks and Rec Director Scott Whitaker said it was just never a major priority residents brought forward until recently.

Whitaker said regardless of the contest, the city will likely pursue at least one, if not two, dog parks in the near future.

As of Monday, Carrollton had more than 1,100 votes in the contest.

The majority of the cities on the list only had a handful of votes in their favor, making Carrollton a standout.

Whitaker hopes the city will at least make it to round two when the voting ends this Saturday.
