Car, School Bus Collide in Lewisville

Two people are in the hospital after a car crashed into a school bus in Lewisville Wednesday afternoon.

The crash happened on state Highway 121 Business Road and Railroad Street at about 4:45 p.m.

Lewisville police say 20-year-old Osiel Frias-Roberto was driving a 2002 GMC Envoy eastbound on state Highway 121 Business Road when he drove through a red light and crashed into a Durham School Services bus.

The school bus was crossing the intersection northbound on Railroad Street at the time of the collision. The bus driver was the only person in the bus at the time of the crash.

The impact caused the bus to hit another car, a Honda Civic, that was stopped at a red light.

A passenger in the Envoy and the 46-year-old bus driver were taken by air ambulances to Medical Center of Plano. Both are listed in critical condition.

Lewisville paramedics took Frias-Roberto to Medical Center of Lewisville where he is being treated for minor injuries.

Lewisville ISD tweeted about the crash.

After dropping students home from school, a bus was hit by a car. The bus was on its way to the nearby bus barn. The driver of the car has been care flighted and the bus driver was taken to a nearby hospital to be assessed for injuries. Our thoughts are with the car and bus driver.

Investigators found open alcohol containers at the scene of the crash. They believe Frias-Roberto was intoxicated at the time of the crash.

The Lewisville Police Department arrested Frias-Roberto on two counts of intoxication assault. Police say he will be taken to Lewisville City Jail and will await arraignment on the charges.
