SUV Fire Spreads to Apartment Building in Dallas: DFR

Firefighters have contained a two-alarm fire that started as an SUV fire at an apartment complex in North Dallas.

Flames broke out inside an SUV parked parked under a section of covered parking in front of a three-story building at McCallum Meadow Apartments in the 7700 block of McCallum Blvd at about 2:00 Tuesday afternoon.

The fire made it into the attic of the building by way of a tree located immediately in front of the engulfed SUV, according to Dallas Fire-Rescue spokesman Jason Evans.

There were 24 units in the building. One unit sustained the majority of the fire damage. Several other units were damaged by smoke and water. The building will most likely be uninhabitable due to a loss of power, Evans said.

No residents were injured. However, a firefighter was evaluated for heat exhaustion. He is expected to be okay.

Fire investigators determined that the cause of the fire was accidental. In addition to the collateral damage suffered by the building, there was a second vehicle that was partially burned, as well.
