Car Chase Ends at Valet Parking

Cigar-smoking woman arrested outside DFW Airport hotel

A car chase that reached speeds of 100 mph ended early Thursday morning when the driver finally stopped at a valet parking area at DFW Airport, police said.

Sandra Stephens-Foster, 60, was arrested about 4:30 a.m. for evading arrest and drunk driving.

A police officer initially stopped her along Airport Freeway in Euless but she refused to roll down her window, puffed on a cigar, and drove away, police said.

"She had a dazed look on her face," said Euless police Lt. John Williams. "She just nailed it and took off."

Officers then chased her through Irving into Dallas.

The chase wound its way along Interstate 30, Highway 75 and Loop 12.

"It just went on and on," Williams said.

At times, she drove without headlights and officers decided to terminate the pursuit because it was too dangerous, police said.

But police spotted her again a short time later on Airport Expressway.

Officers followed the car without lights and sirens into DFW Airport, where Stephens-Parker stopped at the tollbooth, police said.  She then drove to the Hyatt Regency Hotel and stopped in the valet parking area, where she was arrested about an hour after the chase began.

"I'm not sure if she intended that to be her final destination or not," Williams said.

Officers at first thought the cigar she was smoking may have contained marijuana, but Williams said it did not.
