Family and friends held a candlelight vigil Monday night for a 16-year-old Duncanville High School student who was killed by a suspected drunken driver over the weekend.
The vigil was held at the intersection of Camp Wisdom and Clark roads where Taurean Babcock lost his life.
“One second you’re on the phone with him that night and the next second he’s gone,” said Babcock’s best friend, Isaiah Newhouse.
Newhouse, along with other friends and family, gathered at the intersection that borders Dallas and Duncanville where Babcock was struck.
Babcock’s mother broke down in tears during the vigil and fainted while walking past the intersection where her son was killed.
Babcock was a junior at Duncanville High School and a Boy Scout in Troop 520. His scout master, Mike King, said the teen was so close to earning his Eagle Scout ranking.
But Babcock’s goals and dreams ended violently when another driver ran a red light and T-boned Babcock’s car, killing him and injuring his passenger.

“He was a caring person,” said Newhouse. “A careless person killed him.”
Police are not releasing the suspect's name yet because he is still in the hospital with injuries considered to be not life-threatening.
That driver is expected to be charged with intoxication manslaughter and assault with a car.
