Cafeteria Worker Fatally Shot Outside Houston-Area High School

A woman arriving to work at a Houston-area high school has been shot and killed by her estranged husband.

The Katy school district says the woman was shot in the back after arriving at Tompkins High School about 6 a.m. Friday. An announcement on the school's website says the woman worked in the school cafeteria.

The Houston Chronicle reported that when Fort Bend County sheriff's deputies arrived, they found two coaches performing CPR on the woman in a rear parking lot.

She was taken to a hospital but died of her injuries.

School officials say classes have not been disrupted but that parents can come retrieve their children at the school if they prefer.

The suspected shooter is barricaded at a home in Brookshire, just west of Katy.
