Brownsville ISD Buses Face Checks After 2 Fires

Dozens of school buses operated by a South Texas district face inspections after engine compartment-related fires destroyed one bus and left another damaged.

The Brownsville Independent School District announced inspections begin Monday on four buses similar to vehicles that recently caught fire. Nobody was hurt.

The driver Wednesday extinguished a fire on a bus carrying 30 students. An Oct. 4 fire destroyed a bus carrying 29 students.

The two buses of similar make and model were purchased from IC Bus, LLC, which will provide experts to do inspections. A statement Friday from IC Bus, a subsidiary of Illinois-based Navistar, Inc., says the safety of students and customers is the priority.

Company experts will also check about 100 other buses, of different makes and models, that it supplied to the district.
