Brother of Mavs' Devin Harris Killed in Early-Morning Dallas Car Crash

The brother of Dallas Mavericks guard Devin Harris was fatally injured in an early morning crash on a Dallas expressway, The Dallas Morning News reports.

According to the paper, the Dallas County medical examiner's office said 38-year-old Bruce Harris was pronounced dead shortly after noon Thursday at an area hospital.

Harris was involved in a fiery crash on U.S. 75 at about 1:45 a.m. that ended up closing the highway for several hours.

Dallas police said Bruce Harris and an unnamed passenger, age 36, were sitting in a disabled vehicle on northbound Central Expressway when they were hit by an oncoming car driven by a 23-year-old man with a 23-year-old passenger.

Investigators said the impact caused the gas tank of the disabled vehicle to rupture and catch fire.

All four people involved in the crash were injured and were transported to Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas. One of the injured had to be extricated from one of the vehicles -- though it's not clear which person that was.

The condition of the three survivors is not yet known.

The paper said Devin Harris, who played in the Dallas Mavericks' season opener Wednesday night, was excused from practice Thursday.

When asked about the crash, the Dallas Mavericks said they had no comment.
