Boys and Girls Club Warn of Imposter Seeking Donations

The Boys and Girls' Club is warning people throughout Dallas not to give donations to a door-to-door solicitor.

Over the last few weeks, the club has received at least seven complaints from Lakewood to University Park.

Streets targeted by the door-to-door solicitor include Goliad, Swiss, Versailles, and Wycliff.

The club said the man usually wears a reflective vest, carries a lanyard with the club logo and a clipboard.

"This gentleman is taking advantage of that positive image that we have created over that period of time," said Charles English, president of Boys and Girls Club of Greater Dallas.

Matt Maynard said he encountered the impostor recently.

"It's very frustrating. So many people pouring hearts out and giving money makes you mad," said Maynard. "This guy seemed very nice. He was smiling, seemed very believable, so I didn't think anything of it."

The club said it never sends anyone door-to-door on a national or local level, so do not fall for it.

People who come into contact with the man are asked to call the police.
