Officials at the Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base Fort Worth have detained one person and lifted a lock down after a suspicious package was found near the base's main entrance Thursday morning.
Installation officials have revealed no information about the person detained, but did say that person has been questioned by the Naval Criminal Investigative Service and transferred off the installation.
The base resumed normal operations to regularly scheduled gate traffic shortly before 4 p.m. Meanwhile, the investigation into the package is ongoing.
According to Karin Krause, NAS JRB Fort Worth public affairs officer, the threat was first reported at about 9:30 a.m. Base officials later released a statement saying a Naval Security Force member was told about the package at the base's main gate.
The Naval Security Forces 301st Fighter Wing Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team and the Fort Worth Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team were called to investigate the package and the installation was locked down.
"Out an abundance of caution, the installation is locked down until further notice. This precaution is for the safety of installation personnel and the surrounding local community," officials said Thursday morning.
Shortly before 1 p.m., the east exit was opened to allow outbound traffic only. After 2 p.m., the lock down was lifted and inbound traffic was allowed onto the installation at the east gate. Shortly before 4 p.m., the base resumed normal operations.
