Little Elm Boat Ramp Reopens in Lewisville

Boaters are getting back on Lake Lewisville.

“It’s a blessing. I thank God, I really do,” said Tony Ogle of Little Elm, who spent four hours on the lake in his boat.

“We’ve been in drought for so long, you know they’ve been off, so for the first time in 7 or 8 years the water, the boat, it’s a perfect mix, thank the Lord,” said Ogle.

The Little Elm boat ramp reopened Sunday morning, seven weeks after it was closed by high water on May 24.

“We’ve been waiting for a long time,” said Mary Butler, of Frisco. “We had to look on the Internet and it took us a while to find an open ramp."

Little Elm invested $5 million in the new boat ramp last summer, along with a new courtesy dock and public beach.

The beach and newly-built beach volleyball courts remained under water over the weekend.

“We anticipate that we may get to where we can see it maybe later in the summer maybe at the end, or the beginning of the fall,” said Chad Hyde, Director of Little Elm Parks & Recreation.

“But even at that point we’re going to have to do a significant amount of cleanup, rehab, and probably bring in a lot more sand to replace the sand that has washed away.”
