Fans Pick Red, White and Blue for Big Tex

Big Tex fans have spoken, picking a shirt for the iconic Texan to wear during this year's State Fair of Texas.

Voting on Facebook, fans overwhelmingly agreed the big guy's Western shirt should be a red, white and blue number with red stars on the front shoulders and a single red star on the back yoke.

It's a good-looking shirt, and if you think you'd look stunning in one there's good news -- you can buy your own human-sized replica, at the State Fair, for $39.99. Sizes range from medium to 2XXL.  For the sake of comparison, I think Big Tex is like a 200XL.

The winning design earned 56 percent of the vote, while the second and third place designs snagged 32 and 12 percent.  And, even though his shirt is changing, Big Tex will still be sporting his signature five-pocket denim Dickies jeans.

Dickies has been outfitting the tallest Texan for the past 14 years and changes his attire every three.  This was the first time Dickies has asked for input from the public.

“Big Tex is a much loved treasure in the state of Texas, and we’re so excited that the public was able to help pick out his new shirt this year. Everyone did a fantastic job of picking a design that speaks not only to the personal style of Big Tex, but to the spirit of the state of Texas as well,” said Michael Polydoroff, senior director of brand marketing for Dickies. “We look forward to seeing the big guy in his stylish new Dickies shirt and blue jeans when the State Fair opens in September.”

The State Fair of Texas runs from Sept. 30 to Oct. 23 in Dallas' Fair Park.
