Big Tex Dismantled Wednesday Morning

Big Tex is going away for another year.

Crews dismantled the giant cowboy at about Wednesday morning, signaling the end of the State Fair of Texas and this year's theme of "celebrating Texas."

Fair officials said Big Tex welcomed 2.2 million visitors to Fair Park this year. A total of $54.5 million was generated in coupon sales for food, drinks and rides.

Here are some statistics for this year's fair:

• 11,300 members of the military and their families visited the fair on Military Appreciation Day
• More than 7,400 first responders visited the fair on First Responders Day
• Record for Single-day coupon sales was broken on Oct. 14, the day of the Red River Showdown. $5.1 million was generated that day.
• A record of nearly 13,000 livestock entries was recorded this year
