Big 12 Baseball Shines in NCAA Tournament

Coming in to the NCAA baseball tournament an SEC against the field bet would not have been that bold. They were the one-seed in 7/16 Regionals. Some even expected them to break their own record and place five teams into the College World Series.

Now the College World Series is just a few days away and the Big 12 is sitting in the driver’s seat.

They have three teams in the College World Series, even though they only had two teams ranked in the top eight of the last National College Baseball Writers Association poll. That is compared to the ACC and SEC who held the top six spots and nine of the top 15.

Those three teams are highlighted by local baseball-power TCU, but Oklahoma State and Texas Tech are plenty capable of winning big games, as they have shown all season and in the Regional rounds.

Each team has had a very different path to the College World Series. Tech was the Big 12 regular season champion, TCU was the tournament champion, and OSU has been solid all year.

Due to the lack of strength in the Big 12, however, only Texas Tech was a top-8 seed.

Oklahoma State, the lowest seeded of the three, is the only team that has yet to lose in the NCAA tournament. TCU faced elimination in game three of their Super Regional in College Station and TTU has won twice in winner-take-all games on their way to Omaha.

Oklahoma State has probably been the most impressive team in the entire tournament. They have dominated their way through the state of South Carolina, beating Clemson and the University of South Carolina in four straight games, and if the College World Series was reseeded tomorrow, Oklahoma State would likely be one of the favorites.

These three teams have improved the overall opinion of themselves and the Big 12 with their strong play of late, and it is quite possible we have an all-Big 12 final. The conference has shown exceptional resilience in this tournament, going a collective 15-3, and surely expects to be bringing home some more hardware later this month.
