Baylor Student Died of Natural Causes During Run

An autopsy says a 23-year-old Baylor University student who died after collapsing near the finish line of a half-marathon died of natural causes.

The report issued late last month by the Dallas County medical examiner's office showed Daniel A. Jones died of hypertensive cardiovascular disease, with stress associated with exercise as a contributing factor.

Jones died March 23 at a Waco hospital about an hour after collapsing in the Bearathon, an event that raises money for student scholarships.

Jones a Baylor senior from North Richland Hills was studying marketing and management.

Justice of the Peace Walter H. "Pete" Peterson had said he felt an autopsy was warranted because Jones was so young.

Peterson told the Waco Tribune-Herald that he hopes the autopsy results help bring closure to students.
