Bank Robbery Suspect Killed in Shootout with Austin-Area Police

Texas authorities said police fatally shot a bank robbery suspect who opened fire on officers and FBI agents.

Austin Police Chief Art Acevedo said FBI agents and officers with the Central Texas Violent Crimes Task Force attempted to serve an arrest warrant Monday night. He said six officers and agents pulled up behind the man's car before the shootout.

"The suspect suddenly jumped out of the driver's door and started firing shots towards the officers," Acevedo said. "The task force officers returned fire, striking the suspect."

Acevedo said two Austin officers and one Round Rock officer shot the man. He was taken to an area hospital where he later died.

Authorities have not released his name. No other injuries were reported.

The Travis County Sheriff's Office is the lead investigating agency.
