Azle High School Student Suspended Over Threat

An Azle High School junior has been suspended and police are investigating after a student made a potentially threatening comment Wednesday at school.

“Yesterday during lunch we had a student that made a comment that “wear red tomorrow if you don’t want to be shot”,” said Tanya Anderson, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Human Resources. “At the end of the school day, a student who heard the comment reported it to the high school principal. At that time, the high school principal was able to call the student in and notify the student’s parents.”

Anderson went on to say, “That parent’s response was 'we don’t have guns in the house' and so by our definition there was no cause for further alarm.”

A student later reported it to police, according to Azle Police. They are now investigating it at a potential terrorist threat.

Charges may be filed against the student once police can determine what he did or did not say.

“At no time were any Azle High School students ever at risk,” Anderson said.

After learning of the potential threat, some parents rushed to pick up their students.

“Everything that’s been going around with schools, I feel unsafe for him to be here,” said parent Rebecca Martinez.

“We have a situation where a young person made an irresponsible comment and in this day and age we take everything very, very seriously,” said Anderson.
