  • Two men began firing at responding officers from inside the home, which caught fire
  • One of the men was arrested. It's not clear where the second gunman is, police said

One man was taken into custody and a second possible suspected car thief remains at large after the pair barricaded themselves inside a home — which was later set on fire — and shot at first responders Thursday morning, police said.

Haltom City police said they recovered a stolen car and tracked two men suspected in the theft to a home in the 300 block of Haltom Road at about 8 a.m.

When approached, police said the men barricaded themselves inside the home and reportedly began shooting at officers. Fort Worth SWAT officers responded to the scene and set up a perimeter just before 11 a.m. [[396173361,R]]

Shortly after a fire erupted in the home. Thick black smoke emanated from the house as officers searched a nearby field. One man was taken into custody.

Fort Worth firefighters wore tactical vests as they battled the blazed under full SWAT protection for the first time in the department's history. The cause of the fire has not been released.

Police are searching for a second unidentified suspect and have not been able to confirm whether or not he was at the residence when the shooting began.

Officials said the man who was arrested fired shots, but couldn't confirm if he was firing at police. The suspect, whose name has not been released, has criminal charges pending and could face arson charges.
