Artwork Enchances Houston's Airports

Two Houston airports have been adorned with dozens of pieces of eye-catching art as part of a new exhibit catering to travelers.

The Houston Airport System's first Portable Art Collection, announced Wednesday, includes more than 100 items ranging from paintings to sculptures. The pieces are on display at William P. Hobby Airport and George Bush Intercontinental Airport.

Houston Mayor Annise Parker said the new pieces give passengers a reason to stop and experience what she calls "something unexpected and very special."

Organizers said the collection features pieces by Texas masters and emerging artists using bold colors, surprising shapes and unusual materials.

City funds pay for the exhibit in an effort administered by the Houston Arts Alliance.
